joliet
Joliet is a town that most may not have heard of before, that is unless you know of the famous Joliet Jake. One of the greatest (fictional) blues singers of all time hails from this small town in Illinois. Though it may be hard to compete with the music scene just slightly north in Chicago, it definitely has its own attractions to assure its visitor a good time.
One of the most notable attractions of this small town is the Rialto Square Theatre. Built in 1926 the Rialto was designed to show silent films so it was constructed with a full 28 rank Barton Theatre Organ. Alongside the organ there is also an orchestra pit that houses the keyboard for the organ.
With the decline in popularity of silent films, and a difficult transition into showing stereophonic ones, the Rialto became threatened by being destroyed and rebuilt. Luckily the locals saved the building and up until recently was home to an outreach program that taught kids in the community music.
This beautiful theatre is definitely a focal point of the town and is now home to many concerts and orchestral performances. With some very interesting venues to play, Joliet is home to a handful of music artists with one of the most successful being a band named Chasing Amy.
Chasing Amy is a rock band out of Joliet that is never short on energy that they bring to the stage. They love getting crowds to interact and simply have a good time, after all the dancefloor is there for a reason. This band of five currently are getting the opportunity to play all around the Midwest with their most recent shows being in Genoa Wisconsin and Nashville Tennessee. Their videos can be found on their Facebook page and I guarantee you they will get you tapping your foot along with some good old fashioned Rock n’ Roll!
